My husband and I have been struggling with our six-year-old daughter, Lily, since she was a toddler. She’s always been a **challenging child**, prone to intense tantrums, physical aggression, and inconsolable screaming fits over the smallest of things. We tried everything we could think of: time-outs, reward charts, gentle parenting techniques, even just trying to ignore the behavior in the hopes that she would grow out of it. Nothing seemed to work. In fact, things only seemed to escalate as she got older. Her outbursts became more frequent and more intense. We were at our wit’s end, constantly walking on eggshells, afraid of triggering another meltdown. Finally, we decided to seek professional help. We found a highly recommended child psychologist, Dr. Harper, who specialized in behavioral issues. We were hopeful that she could provide us with some guidance and strategies to help Lily manage her emotions and behaviors. The first few sessions seemed promising. Dr. Harper was patient and understanding with Lily, and she offered us some practical advice. We started to see some small improvements in Lily’s behavior, which gave us a glimmer of hope that things might actually get better.

However, that hope was short-lived. Last week, I received an email from Dr. Harper that completely blindsided me. In the email, she stated that she would no longer be able to continue treating Lily. She claimed it was “in the best interest of everyone involved.” I was shocked and confused. What could have possibly happened to warrant such a drastic decision? I immediately called Dr. Harper, desperate for an explanation. Initially, she was hesitant to provide any details, citing patient confidentiality. But I persisted, explaining that I needed to understand why she was terminating Lily’s treatment so abruptly.
After much pleading, Dr. Harper finally relented, but she warned me that what she was about to tell me was disturbing. She explained that during their last session, Lily had revealed something truly unsettling. Apparently, Lily had been sharing very detailed accounts of events that could not possibly be known to her. Things about my husband and I from BEFORE she was born. Lily would describe, accurately, things she couldn’t possibly know.
Dr. Harper then shared that during their last session, Lily, in a moment of eerie calmness, had described the circumstances surrounding Dr. Harper’s grandmother’s death. She shared details that were never released publicly, details that only Dr. Harper knew. Dr. Harper said the hair stood up on the back of her neck and she was afraid.
Dr. Harper explained that she believed Lily possessed some kind of ability that was beyond her understanding. She admitted that she felt unqualified and frankly, unsafe continuing to treat Lily. She suggested that we seek help from a specialist in parapsychology, someone who could better understand and address Lily’s unique… talents. She said it was the strangest thing she’d ever encountered in her practice.
I am now left grappling with the implications of Dr. Harper’s revelation. Was my daughter just a difficult child, or was there something more sinister at play? My husband and I are terrified and unsure of what to do next. We’re considering seeking the advice of a parapsychologist, but the whole situation feels so surreal. I never imagined that my daughter’s behavioral issues could lead to something so extraordinary and frightening. We just want our little girl to be happy and healthy, but now I am not sure what that will look like…
