My best friend, Jace (34M), is a truck driver and visits about once a month. This visit was his first time meeting my girlfriend. I was actually super excited for them to meet because Jace is basically my brother, and my girlfriend is amazing, so I figured they’d get along great. So, Jace came over, I made his favorite dinner, and everything seemed fine. We were laughing, telling stories, and generally just having a really good time. It seemed like they were hitting it off too, which was exactly what I had hoped for. Honestly, I was picturing us all becoming super close and doing double dates and all that fun stuff. I was so happy that this was finally happening, my two favorite people finally getting along. I was thinking about how lucky I was to have such great people in my life. It all felt so…perfect. **Then disaster struck.** I got a call from my mom. A pipe had burst in her kitchen, flooding everything, so I had to rush over and help. Of course, it happened at the worst possible time. I felt terrible leaving Jace and my girlfriend alone, but my mom really needed my help. I told them I’d be back as soon as I could, and dashed out the door. I was gone for about an hour, maybe a little longer. I was stressing the whole time, trying to get everything fixed as quickly as possible so I could get back to my friends. I kept thinking about how awkward it must be for them to be alone together, but I figured they were adults and could handle it. I mean, what could possibly happen in an hour? Boy, was I wrong.

When I got back, it felt off. **The atmosphere had completely shifted.** Jace and my girlfriend were sitting on opposite ends of the couch, watching TV in total silence. As I walked in, she stood up and said she was going to bed to read. It was weird. She seemed…distant. I followed her upstairs, and she was already pretending to be asleep. I tried to talk to her, but she just mumbled something about being tired. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. Something had definitely happened while I was gone.
The next day, she avoided Jace completely. Skipped breakfast and lunch, made excuses to leave the house. It was so obvious that she was avoiding him, it was almost comical. I figured maybe they just didn’t click, maybe they had an awkward conversation. I tried not to think too much about it, hoping it was just a minor thing that would blow over. But deep down, I knew something was seriously wrong.
Then Jace went out shopping, and she sat me down and told me she wants him to leave. Like, IMMEDIATELY. I was honestly shocked and asked why. What could have possibly happened in that one hour to make her react this way? I mean, she seemed to like him yesterday! **This was completely out of the blue.**
That’s when she started crying and said, “It’s because of what he did while you were gone.” She was hesitant to tell me, like she was afraid of how I would react. She kept saying she didn’t want to hurt me, but she needed to be honest. My heart was pounding in my chest. What could he have possibly done? It turns out, **he made a move on her!**
She told me he started saying how beautiful she was and then tried to kiss her! She pushed him away and told him it was inappropriate, and he apologized, but the whole thing left her feeling incredibly uncomfortable and violated. Now, [“I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO.”] Jace is like my brother, but I can’t excuse his behavior. But also, this happened with my MOM over the phone, which is insane.
