I Saw My Mom On Her Knees The Night Before…

The air crackled with anticipation. Tomorrow was my wedding day. A day I had dreamed of since I was a little girl. Everything was perfect, or so I thought. The venue was stunning, the dress was exquisite, and I was about to marry the man of my dreams, Zachary. As the day wound down, a comforting exhaustion settled over me, promising a night of restful sleep before the momentous occasion.\n\nExcitement, however, had other plans. A nagging headache, a persistent throb behind my eyes, kept me tossing and turning. Eventually, sleep eluded me entirely. I decided to seek relief in the form of some aspirin. Slipping out of bed, I quietly made my way downstairs, hoping not to disturb anyone.\n\nAs I neared the kitchen, a faint murmur of voices stopped me dead in my tracks. A cold wave of unease washed over me. It was my mother and Zachary. He was supposed to be at his hotel, adhering to tradition, but there he was, in my house, late at night, engaged in a hushed conversation with my mother. Curiosity and a growing sense of dread propelled me forward. I crept closer, my heart pounding in my chest.\n\nThe scene that unfolded before me was like a punch to the gut, stealing the air from my lungs. My mother, my dear, sweet mother, was on her knees before Zachary. Her face was tear-streaked, her voice choked with emotion as she pleaded with him. Each word was a blow, a shattering of the perfect illusion I had so carefully constructed around my life. ‘Please, don’t do this,’ she begged, her voice trembling. ‘I’m begging you.’\n\nZachary stood stiffly by the kitchen counter, his body language radiating tension and anger. He looked down at my mother, his expression unreadable. The man I thought I knew, the man I was about to marry, seemed like a stranger. His hands were clenched into fists, knuckles white with suppressed rage. ‘What exactly do you want from me?’ he demanded, his voice hard and cold.\n\nThe air hung heavy with unspoken words and hidden meanings. The happy anticipation of the previous hours had evaporated, replaced by a thick fog of confusion and fear. What was happening? What secret were they keeping from me? Why was my mother begging my fiancé? The questions swirled in my mind, each one more terrifying than the last. I stood frozen, caught between wanting to run and wanting to demand answers.\n\nBefore I could gather my wits and confront them, Zachary turned his head, his eyes locking onto mine. A look of utter shock, quickly replaced by a carefully constructed mask of composure, flickered across his face. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. My mother, still on her knees, slowly turned to face me. Her eyes were filled with a mixture of guilt and terror. ‘There’s something you need to know,’ she whispered, her voice barely audible. [\
