He Replaced Me On Our Vacation With *Who*?!?

This trip was my idea. My husband had been talking for a while about wanting a “real family vacation” with his parents. Not just a dinner or a weekend visit, but an actual trip together. We didn’t have kids yet, and I was doing well at work, so I thought — why not now? It was his 35th birthday, and it felt like the perfect moment. So I arranged an all-inclusive getaway to Florida for him, his parents, and me. Flights. Hotel. Everything paid for. I handled it all. His parents seemed like pleasant people, grateful even, and I honestly thought it would be something we’d all enjoy together. The night before the trip, I went to bed early. I remember that clearly. What I remember as strange — and only realized later — was that my husband brought me tea. He never does that. He joked that I’d “need the rest” for our early flight. I didn’t think twice. I trusted him. I woke up the next morning to silence. No rushing. No suitcases. No husband. My phone was on the nightstand. One message. “I tried to wake you, but you were completely out. We couldn’t miss the flight. I logged into your airline account and changed the ticket to Mom’s friend’s name so it wouldn’t go to waste. Hope you understand.” I just stared at the screen.

How could I sleep through alarms? Through him trying to wake me? That had never happened before. And suddenly, that tea didn’t feel so innocent. Still in shock, I opened the airline app. One seat left on the next flight. Business class. I didn’t hesitate. I booked it.

I didn’t text. I didn’t call. I packed, locked the door, and flew to Florida the same day — without telling any of them. When I finally arrived at the resort, I went straight to the room booked under my husband’s name and knocked. The door opened. It wasn’t my husband.

I smiled and said, “You must be my mother-in-law’s friend?” She looked surprised, but nodded. “Yes, I am. And you are…?”

“His wife,” I replied, pushing past her into the room. **The look on my husband’s face** when he saw me was worth the price of the business class ticket. Turns out, the tea wasn’t just to help me sleep; it was to knock me out completely so he could enjoy a ‘family’ vacation with someone else.
