My GF Avoided Me, The Reason Involved My Mom?!

My girlfriend works these crazy 12-hour overnight shifts, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. It’s a brutal schedule, but she’s a trooper. Usually, after work, she’d swing by my place around 8:15 a.m. Like clockwork, she’d take a quick shower by 8:30, then just crash for the entire day. Honestly, this setup was perfect for both of us. I loved having her there, and she appreciated having a quiet, comfortable place to rest after those grueling shifts. Everything was going swimmingly, until one day she just… didn’t come. I got a text from her that read, “heading straight home, will text later.” Initially, I figured maybe she was just extra tired and needed some alone time. No big deal, right? I even doordashed her some food as a sweet gesture. But then it happened again. And again. And again! Suddenly, we were basically only seeing each other on weekends, which is, like, half the days of the week. Some weeks we couldn’t even manage that because our weekends just didn’t line up. It felt like we were slowly drifting apart, and I couldn’t figure out why.

Every time I asked her why she wasn’t coming to my place anymore, she’d either dodge the question completely or just flat-out ignore it. It was driving me crazy! I tried to be understanding, but her behavior was becoming increasingly erratic and concerning. Then came the cherry on top: she refused to meet my mom to give her some papers I’d forgotten at her place. I needed those papers urgently for work, and she knew I’d get into serious trouble because of it. My mom lives with me and my girlfriend has met her plenty of times with no issues, so this refusal was super, super weird.

That was the final straw. I knew I had to confront her and demand some answers. I couldn’t take the dodging and ignoring anymore. I finally managed to sit her down and said, “Okay, you NEED to tell me what’s going on. I deserve to know why you’re suddenly avoiding me and my place.” She just sighed, like she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. After a long, drawn-out silence, she finally made a confession that made me go pale.

She started, “It’s…it’s because of your mom’s friend who lives in the basement.” My mind instantly went blank. My mom’s friend? The one who’s always been so kind and friendly? What could he possibly have to do with this? She continued, her voice barely a whisper, “Remember that morning I was at your place?”

“Yes,” I said, my heart pounding in my chest. “What about it?” She hesitated, then finally blurted out, “When I was at your place that morning, he…”.

I’m too embarassed to finish this…
